Noah will be in 1/2-day, afternoon kindergarten this year. Today he went to Goynes Elementary School to look around and get familiar with everything. He immediately met another little boy, Chase, and spent his time karate chopping him.
I made him settle down and pose for a picture.
Then, I insisted on a picture with me.
And, finally, I turned him over to his teacher, Ms. Jidov.

Now, I have to say this lady did not impress me. I know. I know. I know. I don't even know her. But, for some reason, she seems very distant and harsh. When she had past students come by and say hello, she half-heartedly greeted them, showing them no affection whatsoever. She spoke in monotone and had no excitement to her in the least degree. She said she didn't like parent involvement in the classroom, but only wanted help for field trips. Does that sound crazy? As she was informing parents on her routine and expectations, she reminded me of those teachers you find in high school or college who try to come across as an intellegent scholar instead of being real and approachable. I guess what I'm trying to say is she didn't act like a Kindergarten teacher at all (bubbly, energetic, friendly, excited). Because of this, I couldn't shake my uncomfortable feeling with her. I'm thinking either she will be great for Noah to help him master self-control or either have him hating school. We'll wait and see how things pan out.

I remember my first Del Priore Family Reunion, before Anthony and I were married. Noah wasn't even 2 yet and somehow I found myself sitting in the yard playing with him. When did he grow up???
Looks like he's having a wonderful time with his new kindergarten friends. He's absolutely adorable!
Oh, and maybe the teacher was just having a bad day. My day wouldn't be going well either if my hair looked like that!
LOL! Tyson, you had me BUSTING out in laughter with your hair comment. Holy cow!!! That is knee slapping funny! Maybe if I taze her, she'll liven up and her hair will improve. Oh, my stomach hurts and I'm crying. Thanks for the laugh.
She definitely looks like a real witch...and pretty snotty!
Maybe Noah will break her in real good. :-) Didn't you tell me that she had rave review from other parents? So much for a stellar reputation. If she was Levi's kindergarten teacher, she would get "Parent Participation" whether she approves or not. I think I would even be there MORE if she said that, because I would be suspicious of her.
Good luck, Noah!!!
Oh, yeah Tyson's comment was hilarious and dead on about the starchy hair!
Mary, this is a different teacher. The school actually called me yesterday to tell me they switched his teacher. Talk about LAST MINUTE!!! I go from the best teacher in the whole school to emotionless robot. I may have to demand to get switched back.
Well I know how you feel because last year Chyna had a bad teacher, so I thought, I really just did not like her. She made Chyna cry and the first week I went in to help and never came back because I didn't like her. I thought about changing teachers but then I thought it would be a good lesson for Chyna (although she was in 4th not Kinder) to learn to be able to work with all differant types of personalities. Anyway by the end of the year I really did end up liking her and the things that Chyna came away with were invaluable her grades went through the roof also. I mean I will never go around raving about her as a teacher but I was glad about the outcome of the year.
Just in case you can't change his class there may be a reason for her in Noah's life.
I think Noah can sense that she is a witch too. He is so happy in the other pictures and then when he is with his teacher he looks like "Mom help me get away from this lady!"
Wow. No parent involvement in the classroom? Kindergarten teachers are supposed to be all energetic & bubbly. Isn't that one of the requirements? From what you've said, she sounds like she'd be better suited as a middle or high school teacher.
And I agree that the pic of Noah & her looks oddly different than the others. His smile definitely looks forced! He's kinda got that deer-in-the-headlights look going on.
