Spartans 45 -- Irish 0

Midterm grades came out this past week, and Gabriel was not doing well in two of his classes. Because of this, Gabriel sat out for most of his game. We were very disappointed to see that Gabriel was not being vigilant in his school work. If he doesn't bring his grades up, then he will have to give up football. Hmmm....
For this game, Gabriel pretty much only played on the kickoff team, and just a few other plays. I didn't have my camera out at first, but then quickly realized I needed to, because it didn't take him long to level this one kid out! (Too bad I didn't capture that energy, because I could have shown Gabriel that he could use that same energy in his school work...quite simple, right?) Gabriel was in on some tackles,
but also missed one too. =)
His coach told him not to get down on himself, because even good players miss every now and then.

Coach Tyson loves Gabriel. He told him he has faith in him, and expects him to put things in order. He said that he depends on him, and that he has so much confidence in him that he doesn't even have backup for his position. He had to pull linemen and the safety out to cover his role. He explained to him that he struggled at one point in school too, and after coming home with three D's, his dad sold his car, made him sit on the sidelines, and watch his team. Consequently, it helped him realize the importance of his academic responsibilites. He encouraged Gabriel to have focus, because he wants him on that field.
However, Coach is not the only one who encourages Gabriel. He has lots of supporters. The Pettingills even came out to watch him. They didn't get to see much, but it was nice that they could hang out a bit. (They have become Frankie's second family. He spends more time with them than any other, for sure.)

Sorry to hear that's he's not doing as well as he should/could be doing in school. Hopefully the talk from his coach (and parents!) will help to straighten him out.
