Kela ended her ESY (Extended School Year) today. All of the special needs classes put on a very cute peformance for the parents. It pretty much consisted of a stage full of retarded/special needs kids trying to sing. This impacted me tremendously. There I was watching these beautiful, spirited kids in amazement.

Why? They were having fun! They were dancing, clapping, smiling, laughing, and completely enjoying themselves. You could tell each had their own unique personality and own special way in connecting to their performance. It was simple, obviously. Most didn't know the words. Most were clueless to what they were supposed to be doing, but they were radiating pure bliss. Why can't we be more like that? I was getting so emotional! I kept thinking how us "normal" people complicate things so much.

We stress over minor difficulties, get nervous about things that are petty, and don't live life with enough innocence and joy. I wanted to run up on stage and hug every single one of those children (about 50). Today was one of those awakening days. Today reminded me that I need to savor the simple things in life. I need to relax about being a perfectionist, be okay when I fall short, especially over non-eternally significant matters, and bring more happiness to those around me.
Thanks, Kela, for teaching me. I love you, my special angel.

I agree 100% with you Marina! We do need relax and enjoy ourselves and others more! Thank you for sharing your experience! I love Kela and her sweet personality! She always makes me smile whenever I see her!
OK, I am crying while reading this post! Thank you for sharing Kela with all of us and for the important reminder of how precious each moment is and to enjoy life to the fullest.
That last pictures cracks me up...I imagine her suckering one of us in primary to carry her back to nursery when she can walk just fine on her own. As soon as we have her picked up and her legs wrapped "TIGHTLY" around us she starts to laugh, and I mean laugh HARD. You can just tell she thinks we are pushovers. Love that girl!
I don't know that I can see anymore to type a comment, thanks for making me cry! She looks so happy, I can't believe how grown-up she is!
I love those aha! moments. What a special girl Kela is, I am sure she has much more to teach all of us.
Those have got to be some of the best pictures of her that I've seen. Thank the Lord that he has left her here for us to be around...I'm crying now.
THIS IS TRUE! I can definitely take some pointers from her. I love the last pic of her laughing so hard. Very cute
Oh, how I love the pure joy you can see in her face! What a sweetheart. We are all truly blessed to have people like Kela in our lives to give us these reminders. Hugs and kisses to you, sweet girl! Love, Emma's mom.
(That's what she calls me every time I see her. I love it!)
Kela makes me smile!! Kevin said she looks so cute in those pictures! She's a doll baby and I miss her so much. I miss hearing her call my mom "girlfriend".
We all LOVE Kela!!!! Mainly, because she does everything that we would want to do if we weren't so concerned what others thought of us. Plus, she gives you a hard time and we love her for it. ;-P
Kela is so fun to be around because she's always just so happy!!! Even when she's banging her head on the wall, she's laughing! Now THAT's a trooper...
We LOVE you, Kela!!!!
My sweet Kela... I can't wait to see her again and to have her wrap herself around me!! I just mailed her her birthday present so give her hugs and kisses from "hot grandma!" She has and continues to be a blessing to all of us. The pictures are great!!
